Where: Trevor Rees-Jones Scout Camp (Athens, TX)
When: December 27th through December 31st(Some may go on 26th for Order of the Arrow long-term camp requirement or staffing, more details to come)
Who: All T288 registered scouts and scouters (adults) are welcome
Why: Time for a top 25 list, in no particular order…
- Whole-camp air conditioning provided during Winter Camp! Almost guaranteed to be mosquito free!
- Merit Badges! (schedule/offerings available 10/15, registration opens 11/1, closes 12/15)
- Good Food! (adults cook all meals except the last night BBQ dinner, which is also good)
- Mr. Heater! (ask your scout)
- Campfires are better when it’s not 80 degrees at night!
- Chance to use your T288 long-sleeve T-shirt (buy one today!) and sweatshirt!
- Other training for scouts and/or adults offered
- Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (scout)
- Wilderness/Remote First Aid (scout/adult, CPR training req’d, but can be taken in camp also)
- Red Cross CPR, AED, & First Aid Basic (scout/adult)
- Hunter Safety (adult)
- Youth Protection Training – Face to Face (adult)
- Winter Camp Woodturning! (I’ll give you a nickel if you can carve out a pen uglier than mine from last year)
- Mountain Man and EXTREME Mountain Man programs!
- Climbing Tower for merit badges or just for the fun of it!
- Shooting sports, Polar Bear Swim
- First Year Camper program
- James Sweat Indian Village
- Winter Camp Fishing Showdown,
- “Taste of Winter Camp” Cooking Competition
- Horse Trail Rides,
- 5K Run
- Tug-O-War
- Archery/Rifle/Shotgun Competitions
- HAM RADIO (FCC Technician license class) … and MORE!
Cost: $125 base cost per person which includes:
- $35 camp fee
- $80 for food/supplies (includes final night $10 camp-provided BBQ dinner and $10 DQ return lunch)
- $10 for trailer hauling fuel
The base cost is $10 less than last year because DQ money is included in the food/supplies cost this time around.
Other costs for optional activities are:
- $10 for Extreme Mountain Man program
- $5 Pen making/Woodturning ticket
- Rifle/shotgun tickets for merit badge classes or open shooting
- Canteen/Camp Store money
- Training listed above may include additional fees (see WC Leader Guide
Forms (the usual):
- Scouts and Adults – Completed BSA Health Form parts A, B, and C (physical/doctors signature)
- Adults only – YPT Face to Face training card
- Copy of TX Sex Offender Database Check
- Adult In Camp Compliance form
- At least one Severe Weather Hazard certificate for the troop
The due date for Winter Camp payment and forms will be the December 2nd troop meeting.
