Where: Trevor Rees-Jones Scout Camp (Athens, TX)

When: December 27th through December 31st(Some may go on 26th for Order of the Arrow long-term camp requirement or staffing, more details to come)

Who: All T288 registered scouts and scouters (adults) are welcome

Why: Time for a top 25 list, in no particular order…

  1. Whole-camp air conditioning provided during Winter Camp! Almost guaranteed to be mosquito free!
  2. Merit Badges! (schedule/offerings available 10/15, registration opens 11/1, closes 12/15)
  3. Good Food! (adults cook all meals except the last night BBQ dinner, which is also good)
  4. Mr. Heater! (ask your scout)
  5. Campfires are better when it’s not 80 degrees at night!
  6. Chance to use your T288 long-sleeve T-shirt (buy one today!) and sweatshirt!
  7. Other training for scouts and/or adults offered
  8. Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (scout)
  9. Wilderness/Remote First Aid (scout/adult, CPR training req’d, but can be taken in camp also)
  10. Red Cross CPR, AED, & First Aid Basic (scout/adult)
  11. Hunter Safety (adult)
  12. Youth Protection Training – Face to Face (adult)
  13. Winter Camp Woodturning! (I’ll give you a nickel if you can carve out a pen uglier than mine from last year)
  14. Mountain Man and EXTREME Mountain Man programs!
  15. Climbing Tower for merit badges or just for the fun of it!
  16. Shooting sports, Polar Bear Swim
  17. First Year Camper program
  18. James Sweat Indian Village
  19. Winter Camp Fishing Showdown,
  20. “Taste of Winter Camp” Cooking Competition
  21. Horse Trail Rides,
  22. 5K Run
  23. Tug-O-War
  24. Archery/Rifle/Shotgun Competitions
  25. HAM RADIO (FCC Technician license class) … and MORE!

Cost: $125 base cost per person which includes:

  • $35 camp fee
  • $80 for food/supplies (includes final night $10 camp-provided BBQ dinner and $10 DQ return lunch)
  • $10 for trailer hauling fuel

The base cost is $10 less than last year because DQ money is included in the food/supplies cost this time around.

Other costs for optional activities are:

  • $10 for Extreme Mountain Man program
  • $5 Pen making/Woodturning ticket
  • Rifle/shotgun tickets for merit badge classes or open shooting
  • Canteen/Camp Store money

The due date for Winter Camp payment and forms will be the December 2nd troop meeting.
