Personal Fitness Merit Badge

The latest survey showed that many scouts currently don’t have the Personal Fitness MB, one of the Eagle-required ones.

I have volunteered to lead a number of sessions, in order to help everyone in completing this one.

Requirement 1:
1.a – It’s mandatory for this MB to have the BSA medical forms A, B and C (with physician’s exam) up-to-date. I believe that almost everyone has this done for Summer/Winter camp and/or High Adventure last year. However, if you don’t have this completed, please schedule an exam with your physician or thru Care Now or similar facility.
1.b – In addition, a Dental exam with a statement by the provider about your teethes health is required. Please schedule an appointment, or get a statement that your teeth are cared for (in case you just went recently; I don’t want you to have another “fun” exam)

I’d like to start next Tuesday, February 17 at 7PM in the parking lot in front of the church. We will go thru the following requirements as a group:
2.a-f: “Explain to your merit badge counselor verbally or in writing what personal fitness means to you”
3.c-e, g-k: scouts will discuss requirements 3a,b,f with me directly during troop meetings since those are very personal questions not to be discussed in group.

On Tuesday, February 24 at 7PM we’ll go over requirements 4.a-d and 5.a-d.
On Tuesday, March 3 at 7PM we’ll do requirement 6. This may also be done individually. I just have to get the results shown to me.

Requirements 7 and 8 describe the individual 12-week fitness program, to be started AFTER req.6. If we stay with the schedule, you can get this done by the end-of-school, before heading off into vacation.

Please read thru the work sheet before next week’s meeting, just to prepare yourself a little.
In addition it’s quite informative to read the MB pamphlet
I’ll be at tonight’s meeting, available for questions.
We’ll start blue cards for this MB tonight.
