SBR Day 3-5

Day 3 was a blast…literally.

The boys first went to the “the bows”, that was all things bows and arrows. The course  included three activities;  A 3D target range that simulated hunting where the boys could shoot at hogs, deer and bears. The second course was called a “LaPorte”course where  the boys shot at arial targets with a recurve bow. I think best way to describe it is skeet shooting with a bow and arrow. The last course was long distance target shooting. The boys really enjoyed it.

Next was “the barrels”. The boys first shot 22 bolt action rifles then progressed to skeet shooting with 22 gauge shotguns on one of the finest skeet ranges I have ever seen.  Once the boys were comfortable. The staff let them play a game of Knockout, a sporting clays game where…well, ask the boys about it. It was a lot of fun.

The boys spent the evening back at action point skateboarding and biking.

Day 4…

Day 4 started off with the ropes course  , then we began a 45 minute hike up the mountain to the big zip. The big zip is a 3200 ft zip line, the 2nd longest in North America (Puerto Rico has the longest). The long hike was rewarded with a 45 second trip down the mountain reaching speeds of 70 mph.

After lunch we headed to low gear where we road mountain bikes the rest of the afternoon. This was my personal favorite.

After dinner the boys returned again to action point for more fun. Later that evening was the “Appalachian Celebrachian”  complete with a bluegrass band and a professional, yes professional liar.  Everyone that attended thought it was great.. I have taken lots of pictures and videos, but have not had the time to post them all.

Day 5…

The morning started with a canopy tour, a series of zip lines in the forest canopy. It was a lot of fun. The summit staff was taking pictures for promotional purposes a gave us a copy so we should have some great shots of the activity.

The afternoon and final activity was Rock climbing, but it was more than rock climbing. Activities included bouldering, rock climbing, rappelling, and the “leap of faith” all at a world class facility.

While walking back to camp we encountered a pretty bad thunderstorm. Lots of wind, lightning, and rain. We all made it to shelter quickly. After dinner we arrived back to our campsite to discover that the wind had destroyed over 100 tents. Luckily none of them were ours.
